Dr. Irene Suchy

Dr. Irene Suchy lives and works in Vienna around music, driven by the longing for the beautiful tone. She studied music education, German, and cello in Vienna and Tokyo. As editor of Austria’s quality radio Ö1 she designed and facilitated formats such as ‘pastiche’, ‘Zeitton’, ‘Radiokolleg’, ‘Intrada’, ‘Journal Panorama’.
Irene is a presentor and moderator at the RadioKulturhaus, where she invented and implemented the well-known concept ‘Ö1 violin’. Since 1993, she has been a lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, the University of Vienna, the Art University of Graz, and the media Fachhochschule St. Pölten in the subjects of music, music history, music in Japan, radio cultural history, feminist musicology.
Irene presents at Austrian music festivals and cultural institutes abroad. Her research and publications include contemporary history, media history, topics on Paul Wittgenstein, Friedrich Gulda, Otto Zykan. Awards: Promotion Award of the Science Ministry (1992), Gold Decoration for Services to the Republic of Austria (2010), Bank Austria Art Prize (2011), Cultural Journalism Price of Dr. Karl Renner Foundation (2013).
